Moshi

Slow down, my friend, and smell the flowers!

An old, wise mushroom man with a warm and simple heart

Moshi is an old spirit born in a fairy ring deep within a secret Japanese forest many aeons ago.

He belongs to the mysterious Fungi family; All Wood Blewits are his many cousins!

His calm gaze and slow walk are an example of what it means to live in a state of applied meditation. His simple heart is deeply wise and loving.

He reminds us to slow down, to notice the beauty of simple things, to listen carefully, and to be present.

When I was creating Moshi, I struggled quite a lot to sew one of his legs into the right position. It just wouldn't sit correctly! I said to myself, "Poor old man, he has a problem with his leg. He has to drag it around."

That was when Moshi spoke to me:

"When you are walking with a very slow friend who is unable to walk faster, you might choose to adapt to their pace. For most of us, impatience soon appears—and that's wonderful.

When we calm ourselves enough to listen to impatience, it may tell us things that surprise us. It rarely arises for the reasons we first imagine. Once we touch the deeper truth beneath it, we come to know our hearts a little better, and we may even release impatience in more than one area of our lives.

A slow friend invites you to slow down, and that can bring a great deal of joy into your life. Suddenly you can smell the air, see the birds, and enjoy the path. Suddenly there is no rush.

That is what my old leg has been for me. I appreciate our friendship and all that it has taught me."

What a lesson!

Moshi found his home with my dear friend Enía and her father. I hope they share precious moments together and learn much from one another.

Thank you, dear Moshi.

I keep you in my heart.
